PERSONAL PROTECT EQUIPMENT (PPE) RECOMMENDATIONS DEVELOPED FOR ACUTE AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS

Last week, the Ministry of Health announced the requirement that all staff, medical staff and contracted staff who have direct contact with patients, clients and residents wear surgical/procedural masks, eye protection and gloves when providing direct care to patients, clients and residents across Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Health Care.

CODE BLUE PROTOCOL AND VIDEO

At PHC, the Cardiac Arrest Committee has recommended that all code blue events will be considered as potentially COVID-19 positive. This reflects the risk of asymptomatic transmission in undiagnosed cases, the potential for nosocomial acquired infection and the high risk to HCW of aerosol generating procedures including CPR and intubation. The committee will continue to monitor the situation and revise our recommendation according to the best available information.

REMINDER: WELLNESS TOOLKIT FOR PHYSICIANS

RESEARCH DAY AND RESEARCH & MISSION AWARD

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Providence Health Care Research Institute has made the decision to cancel 2020 Research Day and postpone the announcement of the 2020 Research & Mission Award. Although registration for Research Day had not yet opened, it was scheduled for June 5.

WHERE TO SEND ALL OF THOSE OFFERS OF HELP

We now have a single point of contact to direct all offers of help to, for offers of goods and services - “value-in-kind” resources - with respect to the COVID19 response. This can include offers to donate food or meals, offers of donated PPE, information received from hotels about available  accommodations and facilities, and other goods and services.

SO MANY NOT-SO-RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

We have been (almost!) overwhelmed by the incredible support and generosity of our community. Today, we're sending gratitude and thanks to LifeSciences BC. By enlisting the help of their many industry members and contacts, they were able to deliver 73,000 gloves to Crosstown Clinic. For patients and health care workers in the Downtown Eastside, this is a gift of safety and compassion. Thank you!
