Situation Update
  • There were three reporting periods announced today: 36 new cases Friday to Saturday, 21 new cases Saturday to Sunday, 24 new cases Sunday to today. Total of 81 new cases, bringing the cumulative provincial total to 3,500 cases.

  • By health authority: 1,064 in VCH, 1,800 in Fraser Health, 143 in Island Health, 353 Interior Health, 80 Northern Health, and 60 people who reside outside of Canada.

  • There are currently 264 active cases. This includes 11 in hospital, 3 of those patients are in critical care/ICU.

  • There were two additional deaths over the weekend, both residents of Holy Family Hospital.

  • There have now been a total of 193 people who have died.

  • 3,043 people have now fully recovered.

  • There are no new health care outbreaks and three outbreaks remain active. Total of 664 cases in health care outbreaks - 260 staff, 404 residents.

  • There is a new community outbreak at a blueberry plant in the Fraser Valley, with 15 cases not associated with that site.

  • The outbreak in Haida Gwaii is now up to 14 cases.

  • Community exposure events are now posted on the BCCDC website.

  • 1,010 people around the province are now required to self-isolate because of possible exposure to COVID-19.

  • If you have been told to self-isolate, this is not optional. This is a requirement.

  • There is a new public health order around vacation rentals, houseboat rentals. Now, visitors are limited to five. This is above the number of registered guests for the property.

  • Later this week, the Education Minister and Dr. Bonnie Henry will be announcing plans for schools in September.

HOLY FAMILY HOSPITAL OUTBREAK UPDATE

Staff at Holy Family long term care continue to work around the clock, ensuring strict vigilance in following all infection prevention and practice protocols to keep residents and staff safe from COVID-19 and to end the outbreak that’s been in effect since June 9.

APPROPRIATE USE OF GLOVES DURING COVID-19

This is a friendly reminder that gloves do not replace hand hygiene. Hand hygiene MUST be performed before donning and doffing gloves.

As part of Providence Health Care’s ongoing commitment to patient and family centered care, the Urban Health, Surgical and Medicine, Older Adult and Palliative programs are in the midst of re-aligning some inpatient units, to ensure that our patients are cared for in the most appropriate environments. As noted previously, this move will be highly beneficial for our patients. 

NEW IMITS SERVICE DESK FEATURES COMING TO ALL STAFF AND PHYSICIANS ON JULY 29

Beginning July 29, 2020, PHC and all other B.C. health authorities will be moving to a new provider for Service Desk and Deskside technician support. With this transition, the following changes will occur:
