RESOURCES ON SERIOUS ILLNESS CONVERSATIONS WITH HIGH RISK COVID-19 PATIENTS
Providence has developed a number of resources to help physicians and health care providers have conversations with patients who are at high-risk of dying from COVID-19 infection.
Dr. Rose Hatala, Internal Medicine and Palliative Care, and Wallace Robinson, Leader for Advance Care Planning, collaborated with the Department of Medicine on the development of new COVID conversation tools which include a conversation guide and a companion 20 minute video containing key tips and a demonstration to help these conversations go smoothly. The purpose is to provide surgeons and physicians with quick training on how to conduct these difficult conversations.
The tools are based on best practices from the Serious Illness Conversation work of Atul Gawande and Ariadne Labs.
These tools plus additional COVID-19 conversation and symptom management resources are available on our website.
