Taking Care of Your Mental Wellness:  Try this simple exercise to feel grounded on the go. 

During this crisis, likely your mind and your body are working fast, thinking of a million things  work and family related. Yet, our work requires us to be present with the people we’re serving. This sensory based grounding exercise is useful when feeling highly anxious, when you need to stay calm, or anytime you feel “disconnected” from your body. The best thing is…it is really simple to do.  Look around you. Take deep breaths. Identify and internally name: 

  • 5 things you can see
  • 4 things you can feel
  • 3 things you can hear
  • 2 things you can smell
  • 1 thing you can taste

This getting grounded exercise only takes seconds and can be accomplished on your way to your next interaction. Be compassionate with yourself and take those moments to breathe deeply so you can be compassionate with those around you.
