Situation Update
  • For Friday, April 23: 1,001 new cases of COVID-19 were announced, for a total of 113,139 cases in British Columbia. 
  • Active cases:  8,842
  • Currently hospitalized: 486
  • Intensive care: 160
  • There have been new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 1,554 deaths in British Columbia. 
  • New cases by health authority region:
    • Northern Health – 39
    • Interior Health – 93
    • Island Health – 26
    • Fraser Health – 626
    • Vancouver Coastal – 215
  • In B.C., 1,542,066 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-SII COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, 88,663 of which are second doses.

PROVINCE INTRODUCES TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS TO CURB SPREAD OF COVID-19

Today, new travel restrictions were announced for British Columbians to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH ANNOUNCES POSTPONEMENT OF SCHEDULED NON-URGENT SURGERIES IN NINE LOWER MAINLAND HOSPITALS

Yesterday, Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, announced the difficult decision to postpone scheduled non-urgent surgeries in nine Lower Mainland hospitals for the next two weeks. Read more on this announcement.

$5,000 INCENTIVE FOR NEW GRADUATE HEALTH CARE ASSISTANTS IN LONG-TERM CARE
