Situation Update

For Friday, April 30: 740 new cases of COVID-19 were announced, for a total of 129,482 cases in British Columbia.

  • Active cases: 7,886
  • Currently hospitalized: 511
  • Intensive care: 174
  • There has been 4 new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 1,581 deaths in British Columbia.

Since the last report, new cases by health authority region:

  • Northern Health – 22
  • Interior Health – 92
  • Island Health – 32
  • Fraser Health – 431
  • Vancouver Coastal – 163

After a cochlear implant patient expressed that she couldn’t understand anyone because she usually reads lips and everyone was wearing masks, the Surgical Day Care team took quick action improve the patient experience.

PAID LEAVE FOR COVID-19 VACCINATION

On April 19, 2021, the Provincial Government amended the Employment Standards Act (ESA) to provide employees up to three hours of paid leave (at straight time wages) to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
