ATTENTION PROVIDENCE PARENTS: Temporary Emergency Child Care for Essential Workers

On March 16, Premier John Horgan announced the decision to suspend all B.C. elementary and secondary schools until further notice to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We understand that this has put stress on families and parents who provide essential services, including those of us who work in health care. We are pleased to announce that in partnership with VCH, Temporary Emergency Child Care for Essential Workers is now available for children age 0-12 of PHC essential service workers, who have no other care options during this time.

By partnering with local schools and licensed childcare services, we are able to provide safe childcare services during this public health crisis.

Who does this apply to?

The Temporary Emergency Child Care is available to essential workers who do not have any other appropriate alternative care options. Essential workers include staff who are essential to delivering patient care and life-saving services. As per the director of Provincial Health Officer, Bonnie Henry, we encourage any family who can arrange for care at home to please do so. We encourage managers and staff to explore flexible work arrangements where possible.
