FINANCIAL SUPPORT DURING COVID-19

To alleviate some of the immense financial stress on staff and medical staff during COVID-19, we have compiled a list of resources to help support your financial stability. 

Unemployment Insurance eligibility: Use this link to determine if you or a loved one is eligible to receive unemployment benefits or to access a Federal Benefits Finder for your situation.

Federal government supports: This page includes information about:

  • temporary salary top-op for low income essential workers

  • increasing Childcare benefit

  • special Goods and Services Tax credit

  • extra time to file tax returns

  • mortgage supports

  • Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

  • reduced minimum withdrawals from RRSP

  • sickness benefits (one-week waiting period has been waived)

  • Canada Student Loans/BC student loans: repayments will be paused automatically

  • Emergency Travel Loan: Emergency loan of $5,000 available to Canadians travelling abroad. Call 1-613-996-8885 or email: CAN.finances.CV19@international.gc.ca 

BC emergency supports: This page includes information about:

  • BC Emergency Benefit for Workers

  • Climate Action Tax Credit

  • funding for housing supports

  • BC Hydro Bills

  • ICBC deferments

  • FORTIS

  • tax relief for business

  • Rental Rate Freeze: effective April 1 (No action needed but people can contact this organization if they have issues)

CBC - financial help for Canadians affected by COVID-19: A hub of benefits the federal government, provinces and territories are offering to people financially affected by the coronavirus.

BC Housing Rental Subsidy Program: Access this page to determine if you qualify for Temporary Rental Supplements from BC Housing.

EFAP: Our EFAP Program offers Financial & Legal Services (at this time, this service is not available to Physicians).
