On February 25, the PHC team hosted a virtual event to celebrate the official launch of the Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation (IWR) Department.
This event marked a significant milestone for Providence Health Care in our dedication to delivering the highest standard of care to support improved wellness outcomes for BC First Nations, urban Indigenous, Métis and Inuit Peoples in BC; and support our ongoing work to actively address anti-Indigenous racism and embed the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) 94 Calls to Action, United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and In Plain Sight into the very fabric of Providence Health Care.
To celebrate the day, Shane Point of Musqueam joined us for the welcoming and the Lil’Wat Drummers shared traditional songs.
The event also offered the opportunity to meet the new IWR Team, and learn more about the new programs and services available to support self-identified Indigenous patients and families receiving care at PHC.
We invite you to learn more about the IWR department by visiting their website. Please note, the website is still under construction.
